10 Things I Wish I Knew About Home Ownership

As a commenter said in my latest video, “…part of adulthood is realizing half the things we were taught are a scam”.

OOPF.

For years, buying a house was sold to us as the ultimate sign of success.

A milestone.

For my personal financial journey, it was the next logical step: pay off debt, save up for an emergency fund, cash flow a wedding, save up for a down payment, BUY A HOUSE. And I did. And it was a disaster. Not only did we overpay for a fixer-upper, but I was totally unprepared for the financial, emotional, and logistical stress that owning a home would cause.

This post is for anyone who’s been told that buying a home is always the smartest move, the safest investment, the “next step.”

These are the things I wish I knew before buying a house.
